So You Wanna Play Football For Your Dad

Apparently so if you're Cody Hawkins. I played baseball for my dad for 11 years. All the way up to high school. So while I'm not expert, I think I know a little something about what it's like to have yourself singled out by others because of perceived favortism. If anything, at least in my situation it was a lot harder playing for him than others.

Right now it looks like Dan Hawkins is spending some extra time riding Cody to make sure everyone knows he gets the same shake that Nick Nelson does. (That's how it went with me.) It looks like Cody's responding fine, knowing he's going to get a little extra and then some because of the situation. That's the first step toward him having some success. The ability to block out all the rumblings and garbage and just go out and play. Not caring what everyone else thinks is half the battle.

Hawkins has all the tools to play the spot. He's got good mobility, looks like he's making decent decisions, and is really accurate for a guy who's only a redshirt freshman. Looks like he'll be the starter come September 1st at Invesco Field against the Rams.
